A tropical landscape in North Florida
When a geologist reached out to us to help them design a tropical landscape for their North Florida home, we were happy to help.
The story
A client reached out to us asking for a North Florida tropical landscape design. They had already been through several designers, and been disappointed by the lack of creativity, and lack of foresight as to how well their plants would survive. We were dedicated to creating a long-lasting landscape for this client, with plants well-suited for their yard. By testing samples of our client’s soil at IFAS at the University of Florida, we were able to target what issues were in the soil, and how to amend them and plant accordingly. This ensured the installation of plant material that would survive and stay healthy!
One of the most important things to us is listening to each client and giving them an experience custom-tailored to their desires for their landscape. After discovering what options were viable for this client’s landscape, we were able to approach them with the options and have them select what they wanted and what they liked best. This method of collaboration on which plants and other elements to use is an important part of our design process, and helps us meet every client’s expectations for the beautiful, creative landscape they have envisioned.
The results
This client's yard had recently been cleared of trees, leaving space for a landscape full of texture and color. As a geologist, they desired to incorporate ornate lime rocks throughout the landscape. The use of large rocks is common in tropical landscaping as a striking contrast to the dense foliage. We used decorative grasses to give texture and depth to the landscape, added colorful, drought-resistant plants, and brought in palm trees to emphasize the tropical aesthetic. We removed dying plants that were creating a strain on the landscape, and added tropical materials while keeping as much existing plant material as possible, so the landscape would still fit in with the rest of the neighborhood.
No matter what landscape design we create and install, we always strive to not only make it work with what is possible for the client’s home, but also to customize it to fit their personality, preferences, and style.
